Hope Deferred

"Hope Deferred"
"Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but
when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life."
(Proverbs 13:12)

I woke up this morning with this verse embedded in my mind and it wouldn't go away. I have pondered it all day long. I have read it over and over in my Bible and have researched the meaning of every word contained therein in the Websters 1828 Dictionary. In doing my research I even discovered the above painting by Charles West Cope!

I don't really know the purpose in all this, but know that this is for someone. To anyone who might be reading this right now whose hope  [desire of some good, accompanied with at least a slight expectation of obtaining it, or a belief that it is obtainable] has been deferred [delayed; put off; postpone to a future time], fret not!

"...weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning" (Psalm 30:5).

  1. as strange as it may seem I think this could be for Tricia, she is having a hard time watching one dream die, and was full of tears last night but hopefully today is better.

  2. thank you! I really needed to hear this! My strength and patience are wearing thin, my baby is close to being due and we are in a bad place financially. Our hope has been deferred for years now and I need to see the resolution of it, so I can stop fretting and start enjoying. I also need to stop my fretting, and CHOOSE to enjoy, just the same, whether relief comes in the morning or not!

But I can'r help but feel hopeful, that today might just be the day for our miracle to happen.

So, thank you once again. God has interesting ways of answering prayers, lol!

  3. Not sure who it's for either, but thank you for sharing the painting, it is beautifully sad.

  4. @ Mamamia - I tried to find a way of sending you a personal message, but I couldn't find one. I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you and praying for you, and I truly hope that your breakthrough is even at the door. I pray that the peace that surpasses all understanding will permeate your very being and that the Lord Himself will bring about the answers you seek in the very near future. God bless you!

  5. Thank you Rebecca, I truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers. My hope has been deferred yet again, but I realized that the last time when I needed a word from God, the answer came swiftly, but the actuality didn't happen overnight. However, just as I did last time, I feel a huge sense of peace and I shall wait patiently on the Lord to bring relief.
I found your comment on my blog and I wanted to congratulate you on your impending arrival of your 10th grandchild! How exciting for you all! Wishing his mama all the best for the rest of her pregnancy and for a smooth delivery.
I am due at the end of July and I typically go late, so he/she will probably be an August baby. That will probably be a blessing too, hehe.
God bless you too Rebecca, I'm so glad I found your blog!
