My Thrifty Week - Post #1

My friend, Laura, over at Harvest Lane Cottage introduced me to her "thrifty week" posts quite some time ago and I greatly enjoy reading them. They are often quite inspiring.

For a while now, I have toyed with the idea of writing a few "thrifty week" posts of my own, but wasn't sure how well I would do with them. It seems that life here is lived on autopilot most of the time, with rarely a thought as to whether something being done might be considered "thrifty" or not...yet many of the things that are done are.

So, without further adieu, although somewhat weak in content, here is my first attempt at a "thrifty week" post...

* We are determined to get more fresh fruit and vegetables into our diet, so I was delighted to discover fresh pineapples on sale for $1.28 each at Walmart this week. I bought two.

* My husband and I put our Dollar-S-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g, Cabinet-Cleaning, Clean-Up-The-Food Project Plans For July into action. (You can read more about that by following the links at the end of this post.)

* I was gifted with two coupons for free ice cream cones at Dairy Queen by visitors to the park the other day. The family had eaten lunch there on their way to the park and Dairy Queen staff had given the coupons to them. Since they weren't from the area and wouldn't be able to use the coupons they passed them on to me. There were several coupons so I saved two for John and I and shared the rest with co-workers. We will use the coupons the next time we are in Lamar.

* We added $15.50 in rolled change to our cash stash this week. When the children were growing up we would use the money hidden in our override system (the method that we've always used to hide money from ourselves in the checking account throughout the year) and rolled change to pay for Christmas every year. Now we just let the money in the checking account build (it's like an easily accessible savings account in the event of an emergency) and we use the rolled change for things we really want. In April our rolled change from the past year funded a four night stay in Branson without dipping into anything else. Rolled change might seem like a tiny thing, but it adds up to BIG money!

Well, I guess it wasn't much, but those are the "thrifty" things that caught my attention this week.

Until next time...
~Rebecca

    1. Thanks for taking the time to stop in and comment, Barbie. Appreciate it! That's great that you had enough from recycling to turn it in to grocery money. I wish there were more recycling centers in our area. Have a blessed week ahead! <3

  2. I think they're wonderful things! Just keeping a list will make you more attentive. I know when I was feeling better, I'd keep my list all week. If I got to the middle of the week and it was a short list, I'd do extra for a day or two!

    God bless!
