Dollar-S-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g, Cabinet-Clearing, Clean-Up-The-Food Project For January 2018 - Week #1 Update

Good Morning, Sweet Ladies!

We're one week into our Dollar S-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g, Cabinet-Clearing, Clean-Up-The-Food Project for January 2018 and so far, so good!

My husband and I did end up going to the store last Thursday to pick up a few things...mostly stuff that we were out of and a few things needed to round out what food we have on hand to make into complete meals (we hadn't been to a store since December 26th). We ended up spending $37.05 at Aldi's and $81.53 at Walmart, which is much more than I wanted to, but, we were out of several things that are normally staples for us (olive oil, salmon, garlic, yogurt, cashew milk, etc)...BUT...like the olive oil? It was a BIG bottle. The salmon? A family-size package. So, for the most part, the stuff that we bought...the big ticket items anyway...will last well into next month and/or beyond.

Thus far, I've managed to stay on-plan with my menus (my weekly menus may be viewed in my weekly Happy Homemaking Monday posts) and everything is good. I am going to try to not go to the store again this month except to purchase the items I will need for a couple of upcoming get-togethers that we are hosting mid- to late-month. I'm sure I'll need a few things for them that I do not have on hand at this time.

Well, it's not much, but that's Week #1's update!

Until next time...
~Rebecca

  1. Sounds like you are making great progress! Reading this reminds me we're out of olive oil but I've been too cheap to buy it when I go my regular grocery store. I usually pick it up at Trader Joe's but it's not somewhere I go too often as it is quite a bit out of the way for me. Totally forgot about looking for it at Aldi's! Still need to work on cleaning out our pantry, reading this inspired me to maybe get that item checked off my list today.

  2. Thanks, Jean! My husband is half-Sicilian (on his mom's side) and he only allows me to buy the good stuff and only organic...so...it's pretty pricey and we go through a lot of it...but it's been that way from the beginning, so I'm used to it. LOL! Hope you got cleaning out the pantry checked off your list today. Have a great weekend! <3
