DEAR CHRISTMAS MOTHERS by Connie Hultquist - A Book Review and Giveaway

Dear Christmas Mothers by Mrs.Connie Hultquist
I just finished reading Dear Christmas Mothers by Mrs. Connie Hultquist and, I must say, I greatly enjoyed it! The book is only 115 pages long, but it is jam-packed with encouragement and holiday cheer on every page.

Mrs. Hultquist started writing letters to homemakers back in 1996. These were handwritten newsletters that were an encouragement to many. Dear Christmas Mothers, is a collection of 17 letters that were written to mothers in the early 2000's that are centered on Thanksgiving and Christmas. A small recipe section is included in the back.

Mrs. Hultquist's writings promised to inspire the reader to have a peaceful, old-fashioned Christmas, but, for me, it did so much more! Not only did I find inspiration, but, on every page, I found godly wisdom, truth, common sense, and plain, good, old-fashioned advice!

Not only that, but, as I read, sweet memories from the years of raising my own brood came flooding back. So many of the things that Mrs. Hultquist did to make Christmas special for her children were very reminiscent of things that my mother did with, and for, me, that I, in turn, I did with, and for, my own children.

Dear Christmas Mothers is a very sweet book that truly blessed me! The best part is, one of my readers will be getting a copy of Dear Christmas Mothers of their own to enjoy this holiday season, as well!

That's right! The publisher of the book, Mrs. Sharon White of The Legacy of Home Press, is offering a free copy of Dear Christmas Mothers to one of my dear readers. All you have to do to enter the drawing is leave a comment in the POST A COMMENT section below telling me something about Christmas...perhaps a special memory or your favorite holiday tradition. One random winner will be selected on Tuesday, December 4th. Then, Mrs. White will mail a copy of the book out directly.

Best wishes to all!

Until next time...
~Rebecca

  1. Looks like a great book! I remember my mom always let me open one present on Christmas Eve and now I do that with my boys except my present as a kid/adult varied whereas my boys pretty much already know the present they get to open is pajamas and a Christmas-themed book.

  2. A favorite tradition for our family is to skip the big traditional Christmas dinner and serve appetizers throughout the day. These started years ago when my kids felt we only had those yummy appetizers for company. SO now for Christmas, they get to pick their favorites and they get to feel treated like company. :)

  3. I used to not be a Christmas person at all. That is until I met my husband and found a loving family that replaced my bad associations regarding christmas with good ones. Now I feel I annoy my husband with my Christmas cheer. It's amazing how the tables of turned. :-)

That's an awesome tradition, too, Kathy! I like that! Serving appetizers throughout the day would be a great thing to do here, since we always serve a pretty fancy dinner on Christmas Eve. I might have to think on that! Thanks for stopping in and commenting! And blessings for a beautiful holiday season! <3

  8. What a splendid, Christmasy giveaway! I'm new to your blog, but it looks most charming.

One of my most favorite Christmas traditions is setting up our Nativity each year. The pieces are all familiar, but every year seem to awaken new wonder and awe at the beauty and mystery of the Incarnation. Baby Jesus gets put away until Christmas Eve at midnight and then He stays out all 12 days of Christmas until Epiphany. Our Nativity is old and one we've had since my childhood, but that, too, makes it all the more special.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful book with your readers...warm blessings to you!

  9. I'm so glad you found my blog, Elizabeth, because that led me to yours! What a beautiful site! Thank you!

Ah, yes! Setting up the Nativity is my most favorite Christmas tradition of all. I know well the new wonder, awe, and mystery that is awakened each year. It is a beautiful and amazing thing. I like the idea of leaving Baby Jesus put away until at midnight Christmas Eve. That's a great idea!

Thanks for sharing with us and may blessings on every front be yours! <3

  10. Christmas wouldn't be the same without carols. I love singing and listening to them as well as the newer Christmas music. Although Christmas is about Jesus, I sure enjoy some Bing Crosby tunes during the season.
    Be blessed my friend!
Thank you for being Jesus with skin on to me during one of the hardest periods of my life.

  11. I hear you, Laura! I love the carols, too...and Celtic Christmas music...and, yes, the old stuff, too...like Bing Crosby's WHITE CHRISTMAS and Gene Autrey's RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER. And you're welcome, but I've been a terrible friend lately. I don't even see you anymore. Of course, we're back to shopping in Pittsburg. If I ever make it back to Carthage again I'll run by and see you. Love you, Laura! <3

  12. It does look like a great book. To me, Christmas is my hobby so this book would be perfect. A memory we have is on NY's Eve every year we would rent a horse-drawn carriage for the whole family... at least 20 people could be in there and go for a 1,5 hour ride with big fur blankets to keep warm. some years were warm and some not so much. There are none available anymore which is sad.

  13. Oh, wow! What a great memory, Lucie! What a fun (and magical) way to spend New Year's Eve (or ANY eve, for that matter)! What you described sounds like something right out of a Currier & Ives painting! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing and best wishes for a wonderful holiday season! <3
